Weightless, safe and secure, it often feels inside the nest of the parents. „Almost like a beautiful dream.“, like my mother wrote in one of her diary entries of our journey to the Seychelles. There comes a time when every bird leaves its nest and wants to break away from the usual bonds.Today I feel far away from this weightless childhood, in which I was born in 1989 as a latecomer in our so called patchwork family.
In my work I take a look in that nest again, to go in for a perhaps last, long journey with and to my parents. This work examines love in an old age and the triangular relationship between my parents and me as an adult child.
This project is more about the experience of a moment, than the simple depiction of circumstances. Important for me is feeling rather than simply seeing. It is not just a purely photographic work. I let my parents actively participate in my project, as I asked them to keep a diary, interviewed them and let both of them take one Polaroid photo per day. In addition to our conversations, I photographed the daily life of my parents in medium format 6x7, and Polaroids. I hope the viewer can empathize my journey and maybe draw parallels to his own family story.
Since around 40 years, my parents used to travel to Istria in Croatia. My mother already went camping there with her own parents, later on with her first husband and two children. Until today this well known journey to the Adriatic Sea brings variety, at the same time a secure space, well beeing & nature into their life.
